JUI-F, ANP call resignation demand premature
BNP sees legitimacy in calls for PM to step down
QUETTA:
Two opposition parties in the Balochistan Assembly have declared the demand for PM’s resignation uncalled-for, arguing that the Panamagate case is pending with the Supreme Court.
“The report of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is incomplete and changes are expected in it,” Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Abdul Wasey told The Express Tribune on Saturday.
“We have to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court” over the investigations carried out by the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT), said the opposition leader in the Balochistan Assembly.
He said since the JIT report is not the final verdict, the demand for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation is premature.

Advising the PM not to resign until a final verdict from the Supreme Court, Wasey equated the resignation demand without a final verdict with an assault on the mandate of 200 million people of Pakistan and democratic norms.
Supporting Wasey’s stance, JUI-F MPA Shahida Rauf said that targeting one person in the JIT report is not in favour of democracy, terming the demand of opposition parties at the federal level an attempt to derail the democratic process.
She said accountability should be carried out across the board and not by targeting a single person. She said with just eight months left for the next general election, the incumbent government should not be made a scapegoat of political revenge.
Shahida also submitted a condemnation resolution against the JIT report in the Balochistan Assembly, attempting to make the assembly a party to the report.
Reportedly, the resolution will unanimously dub the JIT report as bias, aimed at destabilising the country and the democratic process.
Calling recommendations of JIT a sheer conspiracy against democracy, she alleged that foreign powers were behind the Panamagate case who wanted to weaken and alienate Pakistan the world over.

Replying to a query, she said despite being a representative of the opposition party, she “is ready to take any step” for the sake of the country and democracy.
Expressing a similar stance, Awami National Party Provincial President Asghar Khan Achakzai said the PM should not resign till a final verdict from the Supreme Court.
“When we have exercised patience for the outcome of the Panamagate case for 10 months, we can also wait a few more days,” he said.
However, Balochistan National Party (BNP) Information Secretary Agha Hassan Baloch, while talking to The Express Tribune, said the PM should resign. It was the honourable Supreme Court that had constituted the JIT, and not the government, he added.
