LAHORE: While claiming that ‘baseless allegations’ were levelled against an honest and selfless leadership that set the highest standards of transparency in development project, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said those trying to get power to rule from back doors will not succeed.

“Those who show new circus every day at the cost of the country’s development should change their negative attitude as politics of allegations and lies is worthless when compared with politics of service, honesty and transparency,” Shehbaz said on Saturday while talking to a party delegation.

Shehbaz said ‘rejected political elements’ were becoming an impediment in the way to progress, and such elements – due to their lust for power – wanted to take revenge of their defeat in polls by obstructing progress.

“But those wishing to create uncertainty for personal interest will face defeat once again,” he said.

He said fear and irritation of ‘opponents of public prosperity’ was increasing and some political elements ‘deprived of public service’ were trying to spread unrest in the country.

“Politics of anarchy, differences and allegations is poisonous for the country’s development and progress,” he maintained.

However, the CM added, people had recognised fake politicians and were annoyed with those spreading unrest.

“Mandate to rule is a way to serve the public and such a mandate is obtained by serving the public but negative politics has no value as compared to the politics of public service,” he said.

In an apparent allusion to the Panamagate Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) damning report, Shehbaz said, “Baseless allegations were levelled against an honest and selfless leadership which has set the highest standards of transparency in development projects.”

He added: “The nation will always remember the historic role of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in eliminating darkness of load-shedding prevailing for the last 20 years.  People will not forgive those who intercepted the progress through negative attitude and negative role.”

He said resources worth billions of rupees had been saved in mega development projects and there was no such precedence of saving national resources in the history of Pakistan.

The chief minister said the PM had become a ray of hope for the people due to public service, honesty and transparency and “he will take forward the journey of the public service again.”

He said bringing about improvement in the living standard of the deprived segments of society was the manifesto of the PML-N and the government was acting on its manifesto under the leader of Nawaz Sharif.

“The mandate given by the public to the PML-N has been honoured and people are getting benefits of speedy and timely completion of mega projects. The PML-N had always kept the public interest supreme and served the country and the nation from the depth of its heart,” he added.

MNA’s harp on anti-JIT mantra

Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and MNA Daniyal Aziz on Saturday continued to ridicule the JIT findings.

“There is not a shred of evidence in the JIT report that could prove that the PM committed corruption during any of his tenures,” Chaudhry claimed during a news conference in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Aziz in his remarks also attempted to reject the JIT report by claiming that it lacked substance.

“You will see what we will do with this report in court,” he claimed, in contradiction of the fact that Sharif family’s counsels have so far not submitted their objections against the report.
