ISLAMABAD:
Ministry of Commerce and Textile Industry is focusing on modernising Pakistan’s trade mechanism to facilitate international and domestic trade and enhance exports, a senior official of the ministry said while talking to APP. “We are looking for new trade avenues in different regions of the world to diversify export markets and promote the country’s exports,” the official said. The government is also focusing on enhancing internal trade to improve ease of movement for goods and labor, he said, adding that the initiative will increase competitiveness of exports. Updating on the status of Free Trade Agreements, he said that negotiations were under way with Turkey, Thailand and Iran. He said the Strategic Trade Policy Framework also focuses on diversification of export markets by adopting of an outreach strategy for Africa, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Latin America and increasing exports to $ 35 billion.
