It was the year 1988. War of the Worlds was released for the first time on television, Rihanna was born and Calibri was not a font.

It was the same year, qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan released one of his most famous songs Mere Rashke Qamar.

Musicians on the void left behind by legend Amjad Sabri

Since then, many renditions of the celebrated song were done but this is the first time Rahat Fateh Ali Khan crooned to it. The qawwali was given yet another spin in the upcoming movie Baadshaho starring Ajay Devgn and Ileana D'Cruz.

Being a hardcore Nusrat sahab's fan, I know that no one messes with my qawwali. However, Rahat's spin to the song has somehow brought it back home.

Even though I was not a huge fan of this remix, Nusrat Sahab's melodious voice in the background made me sit through the two minute video. Mind you, that was the only thing that convinced me to listen.

It's not just me! Many others agree with me.

After epic buffoonery with Hasan Jahangir's Hawa Hawa remake, Bollywood composers should now leave iconic songs the way they are.

Just to end your day on a better note, here's the original version of NFAK's qawwali. You'll realise why I choose to call it irreplaceable.
