Younis Khan donates historic cricket bat for cause of education

In April 2017, he completed 10,000 test cricket runs with the bat

KARACHI: As a gesture to promote education among underprivileged segments of society, former captain of Pakistan's national cricket team Younis Khan has donated his bat, with which he completed his 10,000 runs in test cricket, to The Citizens Foundation (TCF), a non-profit organisation working for the cause of providing education to the underprivileged.

Younis visited TCF head office on Tuesday to present the bat to them. In April this year, he became the first Pakistani cricketer and the 13th player in the history of test cricket to cross the 10,000 run milestone during a test series against the West Indies.

The star cricketer donated the bat to TCF in fulfilment of a commitment he made to the organisation during an earlier visit to a TCF school in his residential area of Steel Town. He also earlier pledged to donate his match-winning monetary award of Rs1 million to TCF and two other non-profit organisations.



"We are extremely grateful to Younis Khan for his generosity and commitment towards our cause," said TCF Co-Founder and Director Mushtaq Chhapra on the occasion. He added that TCF has come a long way from starting with five schools in slums of Karachi to 1,441 school units across the country in just two decades. "It is only through the support of our well-wishers like Younis that we have come this far," he said.

After presenting the bat to TCF Chief Executive Officer Asaad Ayub, Younis addressed the gathering. "Education is the key that will unlock the potential of our great nation," the cricketer said. At the end of the ceremony, the organisation presented Younis a plaque as a token of appreciation for his contribution to TCF.
