Punjab Education Foundation: Appointment of directors challenged
LHC issues notice to the Punjab government on petition challenging appointment of eight directors of PEF.
LAHORE:
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court issued notice to the Punjab government for April 19 on a petition challenging the appointment of eight directors of the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
The judge said that the court would ensure merit and justice would not only be done in this case but would also be seen to be done. The petition was filed by law firm Muhammad and Ahmad through counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique.
He submitted that the government had violated the Punjab Education Foundation Act of 2004 by appointing on March 18, 2011, six government officers to seats reserved for non-government directors. Siddique argued that the appointments were politically motivated and violated the law.
