Chinese engineer dies in Abbottabad

Near a big hole, made to set the foundation of a small bridge, slipped and fell in the hole

ABBOTTABAD: A Chinese engineer died after he slipped and fell on a mesh of iron bars while working on the Abbottabad Motorway.

Officials said that Fung, aged between 35 to 36 years, had been working on the motorway on a section of the China-Pakistan Economic Project in Dobather. Fung reportedly went to the site on Saturday morning.

Near a big hole, made to set the foundation of a small bridge, slipped and fell in the hole. He hit his head on the iron bars fixed in the hole. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed to his injuries and died. Confirming the incident, Abbottabad DPO Ashfaq Anwar said that this was an accident.

However, the local police were conducting an extensive inquiry into the matter. After conducting an autopsy, Fung’s body was shifted to the Dobather camp office amid tight security. The body would be later shifted to his hometown in China, sources said.
