LAHORE: Former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said the ruling party should let the courts do their work rather than ‘defending Panamagate scam on media’.

The former premier expressed these views while talking to media persons after attending court proceedings of a reference which the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed against him for his allegedly recruiting more than 400 people in Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco).

Financial recovery: NAB hands over Rs12.277m to GEPCO

Predicting a big change in political scenario of the country in near future, he said those who were distributing sweets over the constitution of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) have now lost their senses. “There is a duel system prevailing in Pakistan. I am the former PM and have been appearing before the courts while those appearing before JIT, are hurling threats to the probe body,” he said.

He said if the democracy had not been derailed after the resignation of PPP’s prime minster Yousaf Raza Gillani then how it would be derailed with the resignation of Nawaz Sharif.

“PPP obeyed the courts even after the disqualification of its former PM Gillani while the ministers of the ruling party are hurling threats as well as using abusive language against JIT,” he remarked.
