Shopping Festival: Wrestling match ends in a draw

First wrestling match held under the auspices of the LCCI ends in a draw.

The first wrestling match held under the auspices of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) ended in a draw when one of the wrestlers injured himself.


The wrestling championship was organised by the LCCI under the Lahore Shopping Festival in the Punjab Wrestling Stadium adjacent to Minto Park. MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the championship. Fifty wrestlers from all over the Punjab participated in the competition. Twenty-five matches were held. The last match between Usman Majeed of Sheikupura and Bahawalpur’s Nadir Daha ended in a draw when Usman was injured. Usman said he was disappointed that he had gotten injured. However, he added, that wrestlers needed corporate and public support. He said many wrestlers had left the sport for financial reasons. Pakistan Wresling Federation secretary general Muhammad Asghar said the government needed to hold such contests at least twice a month so that the dangal culture was kept alive.
