Pakistan's Tarar re-elected vice chair of UNEP's permanent representatives body
Permanent representative to UNEP Raza Bashir Tarar re-elected unanimously to serve from 2017 to 2019
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Raza Bashir Tarar has been re-elected as the vice chair of the Committee of the Permanent Representatives (CPR) Bureau from the Asia Pacific Group.
According to a press release issued by the Pakistan High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya, Tarar has been elected for a two-year period.
The CPR comprises all permanent representatives to the UNEP.
UNEP asks foreign ministry to clarify issue
Its major functions include contributing to the agenda preparation for UN Environment Assembly, providing advice on policy matters and preparation and implementation of policies to be adopted by the environment assembly.
The CPR is led by a five-member bureau elected for a two-year-period. Tarar, who was re-elected unanimously, will serve from 2017 to 2019.
"The election is a manifestation of the trust reposed in Pakistan by members of the Asia Pacific Group and reflects Pakistan’s commitment to environmental issues," the press release stated.
Ambassador Tarar also holds the chair of G77 and China's Nairobi chapter.
