ISLAMABAD: Apprehensive about gas cylinders exploding in cars, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Thursday announced that it would create greater awareness about the use of such cylinders in vehicles.

In this regard, the police on Thursday launched a 15-day awareness drive. Once the drive ends, officials said they would start checking cylinders installed in vehicles and take strict action against those who were violating rules and guidelines for such containers. SSP-Traffic Malik Matloob Ahmed has advised the motorists to ensure that their gas cylinders are in good shape and get them checked by mechanics regularly. Furthermore, citizens have been advised not to use the expired gas cylinders.

The SSP said that those violating guidelines prescribe for use of gas cylinders would have to face action, particularly owners of public transport vehicles who were found using defective cylinders or had installed more than the approved number of cylinders in their vehicles.
