KARACHI:
An important political figure belonging to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will join the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan before the PS-114 by-elections on July 9, claimed MQM-Pakistan Deputy Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Siddiqui was addressing on Thursday a press conference in Mehmoodabad, along with MQM candidate Kamran Tessori and joint candidate of the Rajput community and Anjumane Naujawan-e-Islam for the PS-114 by-elections, Rao Waseem, who had withdrawn in favour of the MQM-Pakistan candidate.

PS-114 by-poll: Contest between people and ruling elite, says Qureshi

After support from different communities living in the area, this is an unofficial announcement of MQM's victory in the area and this victory will prove to be a rehearsal of our future victories, Siddiqui said.

He criticised the PPP, saying that despite its use of government resources in the area to influence the people with artificial development, MQM will gain victory. The losers will be those who have been supporting criminals, the drug mafia and gangsters in the area, he said.

Meanwhile, Tessori said that the party had planned to hold a public meeting today (July 7), but permission was denied. A corner meeting was planned in the area on Thursday where PPP forcefully put up their tents and chairs.

With such negative tactics, the PPP cannot win the elections, Tessori said.
