KARACHI: Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal has taken notice of the alleged torture of a woman by a group in District West of the metropolis.

Sharae Noor Jahan police have registered an FIR No 152/17 against two women and nearly half-a-dozen men for allegedly torturing H*, the mother of two daughters. The woman lives with her two daughters in an apartment in North Nazimabad.

Sharae Noor Jahan SHO Abdul Ghaffar said the police registered a case following a court order, adding that the woman had approached the court to have a case registered. "The woman had directly approached the court on July 3 to register a case instead of approaching the police," said SHO Ghaffar. Following the court order, the police recorded her statement and registered the case.

In her recorded statement, the complainant stated that two women and seven men entered her flat and severely beat her. They also cut her hair and burnt her with a cigarette.

The officer said the women and men nominated in the FIR are residents of the same apartment in which the complainant lives. He added that this is the second FIR she has registered at the police station in recent months. In the previous FIR, she had nominated her apartment's union official, Javed Iqbal, for torturing her. The police arrested Iqbal but he was later released on bail, the officer said.

"Now, she has registered another case against her neighbours," the SHO said, adding that the case has been registered while further investigations are under way. No arrest has yet been made and the case has been transferred to the investigation wing of the police station.
