US drone strike kills 4 Islamic State militants in Afghanistan
Kunar governor confirms the air strike and casualties
A US drone strike killed on Tuesday four Islamic State militants, including a senior commander in the Kunar province of Afghanistan.
According to the Associated Press, Kunar Governor Waheedullah Kalimzai said the strike was carried out in the mountainous area of the region. A commander named Hazrat Gul was killed along with three other militants, he added, citing intelligence reports.
In May, the head of Islamic State in Afghanistan, Abdul Hasib, had been killed in an operation led by Afghan special forces in the eastern province of Nangarhar.
Hasib, appointed last year after his predecessor Hafiz Saeed Khan died in a US drone strike, was believed to have ordered a series of high profile attacks including one in March on the main military hospital in Kabul by a group of militants disguised as doctors.

US and Afghan special forces, backed by drone strikes and other air support, have waged a series of operations against the IS this year, killing dozens of their fighters.
In April, the US dropped its largest non-nuclear device on a network of caves and tunnels used by the militant group in Nangarhar, killing 94 fighters, including four commanders.
