MPA accused of running over Quetta cop ‘doesn’t have a valid driving licence’
IGP Balochistan submits a three-page report to the apex court
ISLAMABAD:
Balochistan Assembly member Abdul Majeed Achakzai, who faces charges of killing a traffic warden in Quetta in a hit-and-run accident on June 20, does not even possess a valid driving licence.
IGP Balochistan Ahsan Mehboob, in a three-page report submitted to the apex court, also stated that at the time of the accident, Achakzai himself was driving the vehicle.
On June 28, Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar had taken notice of the killing of the police officer and directed Mehboob to file a report.
The IGP further stated that on June 24, Achakzai was taken into custody by police from his residence in Satellite Town, Quetta.
He was produced before a judicial magistrate the same day and remanded in police custody for five days.
The accused was also wanted in another case registered at the Satellite Town police station.

The Balochistan Assembly speaker has been informed about the lawmaker's arrest .
The IGP submitted that the SHO Civil Lines had been served a show cause notice and suspended for failing to ascertain who was driving the vehicle before lodging an FIR.
The DIG Quetta has directed the SP Saddar Division to ascertain why the FIR was registered against an "unidentified" accused.
He will also look into whether the sergeants injured in the accident, Haji Ataullah and Abdul Ghafoor, were being provided with proper medical treatment or not.
The IGP informed the Supreme Court that action had been taken against the SP Operations City Division for his failure to monitor and supervise the case at its nascent stage.
Similarly, the DSP/acting SP Investigation City Division
has been suspended for his failure to arrest the accused after he was identified and nominated in the case on June 21 and June 23 respectively.
Besides, the DIG Special Branch had been instructed to carry out a fact-finding inquiry.

The IGP also stated in the report that a technical report of the vehicle involved the incident was sought on June 21 and was obtained from the Motor Vehicle Examiner Quetta on June 29.
The report reveals no mechanical or technical fault in the vehicle.
The vehicle was being driven in an extremely rash manner and there was absolutely no effort on the part of the driver to stop it or slow it down on seeing a traffic sergeant in front of him, the IGP wrote in the court.
