Dialysis unit starts functioning at THQ hospital

FAISALABAD: In a bid to provide free dialysis facility to kidney patients, the dialysis unit at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Samundri started functioning on Sunday.

The unit was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani and Parliamentarians Shahbaz Baber, Rao Kashif Rahim and Arif Mehmood Gill. The dialysis unit had been established at THQ hospital with the cooperation of the district administration.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, the deputy commissioner claimed that Faisalabad was the first district in Punjab in which dialysis facility had been provided at tehsil level.

He said, “20 dialysis machines have been arranged at five THQ hospitals of the district at a cost of Rs20 million.”

He pointed out that four dialysis machines were installed in Jaranwala, Tandlianwala, Chak Jhumra and Government General Hospital, Samanabad. Besides, he said RO water plants, UPS and air-conditioners were also provided to the health facilities.

Ghani maintained that resources were being utilised to provide medical facility to the patients while regular monitoring of hospitals and units was being carried out for ensuring good governance.

He said, “A number of development schemes are underway to extend and upgrade the medical services in government hospitals in the district.”

The DC said that special funds had been arranged for the operational cost of dialysis unit at THQ level. On the occasion, he directed the health department officials to supervise the functioning of the dialysis units and ensure their smooth operation.

Meanwhile, the parliamentarians said the dialysis units were the gift from the chief minister to the people of Punjab. They lauded the valuable efforts of the DC and said the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Samundri was providing best medical services to the patients.

They said that the establishment of Cardiac Care Unit in the hospital would also help in addressing grievances of the patients.
