HYDERABAD: Former senior provincial minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Pir Mazharul Haq has alleged that elements formerly supporting late General (retd) Ziaul Haq have penetrated the party's ranks in Dadu district.

"Many former supporters of General Zia, draping the cloak of deceitfulness, are joining the PPP in Dadu," said Haq while speaking to a gathering of PPP workers on Seeta Road.

Haq and PPP Dadu district's President MNA Rafique Jamali have remained locked in a dispute, especially since the latter's political clout began to overshadow the former's in Dadu.

MNA Faryal Talpur, who is also the sister of PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zaradri, tried to broker a truce at a meeting in Karachi between the two sides. However, the reconciliatory attempt does not seem to have borne fruition.

"This district has remained a strong fortress of the PPP. The party doesn't need black thieves to strengthen itself in Dadu," said Haq. "No one from outside can end the PPP, but the threat to the party comes from those supporters of Zia who have penetrated it," he said.

He asked PPP's jiyalas to oust such elements from the party in order to honour their pledge to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

Referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's public meeting in Dadu district on April 22, Haq acknowledged that due to internal differences in PPP's cadre 'a Niazi of Mianwali arranged a big public meeting'.

Haq announced that a black day will be observed on July 5 in Dadu district against Zia. On that day, the former military dictator removed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's government and usurped the power.

The former education minister lamented that he has not been invited to attend Zardari's visit to Dadu. "Workers are leaving PPP because the old workers are being ignored."
