The Lahore High Court chief justice on Wednesday summoned the managing director (MD) of the Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) on April 19 in a suo motu case and writ petitions against the presence of arsenic in water pumped by tubewells of the city providing drinking water. The chief justice took notice of the MD’s absence and warned Wasa’s legal advisor that the chief secretary will be summoned if the MD failed to appear on the next hearing. Suo motu notice was taken on a news item that stated that an Environmental Protection Department report revealed that 253 tubewells of Wasa were supplying water contaminated with arsenic which posed a serious health hazard.
