NAB arrests man for illegal sale of government land

Aleemuddin is accused of cheating more than 500 people by selling illegal plots

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) claimed on Thursday to have arrested a suspect who was allegedly involved in the fraudulent sale of government land in Karachi.

The suspect, Aleemuddin, son of Ziauddin, was charged along with two other suspects, Mansoor Ahmed and Asad Abbasi, for fraudulently selling government land against a sale consideration of Rs39.7 million to another accused member of their group, Haroon Panjwani, who then fraudulently sold the same land to the general public, claiming it was regularised Gothabad land, reads a statement issued by NAB.

The statement further stated that the racket cheated more than 500 persons by selling approximately 582 plots of various categories in Hassan Brohi Goth in Deh Nagan, District West. According to the statement, the accused also established a colony on the land in Hassan Brohi Goth and cheated the public of Rs187 million by selling them illegally demarcated plots and illegally constructed houses on the land. They handed over fake documents to the public, which showed that the land was regularised by the government under the Gothabad Housing Scheme Act, 1987.

According to the statement, Panjwani, the main suspect, was already in judicial custody while Aleemuddin would be produced before an accountability court soon.
