Summer skincare

We bring you tips and products to protect your skin to achieve that healthy summer glow

The sun is shining and the thermometer is steadily rising, and we at TEdit have only one thing on our minds: Summer Skincare! Long summer months mean greater exposure to harsh weather, and it’s crucial to protect your skin in the scorching heat. So ladies, we bring you tips and products to protect your skin to achieve that healthy summer glow

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits like limes, lemons and oranges are rich in vitamin C and are known for their antioxidant properties that can work wonders for your skin. Directly rub a lemon peel on your face to achieve glowing skin, ensuring it is done for no longer than three minutes. Dry out orange peels, grind them and mix them with water or olive oil to use as a scrub. Lime can treat tanned skin in a few weeks. Mix it with some gram flour and curd and apply the paste evenly to your skin and wash off once dried.

Exfoliating is key

The damage that we put our skin through can be a pain to deal with, but regular exfoliation, ideally twice a week can help counter the damage caused by the harsh weather. Exfoliating also allows skin cells to regenerate, which helps slow down the aging process. Freshly exfoliated skin should be followed by a hydrating moisturiser as it is easier for the skin to lock moisture in without the build-up of dirt and dead skin cells. Always go for products that have natural exfoliating grains as they are gentler on the skin and prevent harsh irritation.

Water

Want healthy pimple-free skin that glows without having to go through a complex skin care regime every day? The simple solution is drinking water! Drinking a sufficient amount of water is a great way to achieve beautiful skin as it has been tried and tested since ancient times. It not only fixes skin problems but also helps in keeping various diseases at bay. So add water to your daily diet and watch your skin clear up in no time.

What’s underneath that mask?

Without spending a large amount of money at the spa or on expensive beauty products, opt for products that can be found within the home. Your kitchen is full of ingredients needed to make a homemade face mask to give your skin that loving it deserves. Mix together natural ingredients such as yoghurt, apple cider vinegar, almonds and ground oats to hydrate and replenish the skin, and voila!

Olive oil

Chances are you already have olive oil on your kitchen shelf. Not only is olive oil great for use in the kitchen, it also has amazing skin benefits; be it for moisturising or fighting the appearance of aging. Moreover, mixing a teaspoon of olive oil and a lemon to your scalp can help smooth your hair and remove dandruff. Olive oil is also a great make-up remover as it is gentle enough for everyday use. It softens cuticles, helps your nails grow faster, soothes irritation and works great as a moisturiser. The possibilities are endless!

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is that one summer essential that should not be skimped on. The ozone layer is depleting and your skin needs shielding from the harmful UV rays, and this is where a good sunscreen will come in handy. Skin cancer is rapidly becoming more common because of increased exposure to the sun, so sunscreen helps protect unwanted tanning, hyper- pigmentation and burning and also reduces the chances of skin cancer.

Cool off with a mist

The quickest and easiest way to get to that fresh dewy summer glow is with a facial mist. The heat in this country is a real struggle to deal with, so a face mist should be top priority. A few mists that can help combat sluggish skin and keep the skin hydrated, are the Body Shop vitamin E face mist, ELF make-up mist and set.  Spritz it on for instant moisture and protection. If you’re looking for a more natural option, a few spritzes of rose water should do the trick.
