Eid security : Rawalpindi to deploy 3,800 cops

Traffic wardens would also perform extra duties on the eve of Eid to maintain a smooth flow of traffic

To maintain security over Eidul Fitr, the Rawalpindi police has planned to deploy 3,800 policemen in the garrison city, including women police. City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Abbasi, in a statement released on Sunday, said that Eid congregations would be arranged at 873 mosques, 50 imambargahs and at 63 open places in the district.

Police officials would be deployed at these locations to provide security to the faithful. Moreover, no one would be allowed entry to these places without undergoing a body search with metal detectors. Further, superintendents of police have been directed to lead patrols on Chand Raat and on Eid day in their respective divisions. Apart from male officials, women police would also be deployed.

They will be joined by units from the elite force, and policemen mounted on motorbikes and horse backs. No one-wheeling The Rawalpindi has planned to deploy over a thousand police personnel to check onewheeling on Chand Raat and Eid day.

Police officials noted that some youngsters not only put their own lives in danger but also put others at risk through these stunts. Murree security Police would also provide tight security in Murree where 500 additional police personnel would be deployed.

In a separate statement, Chief Traffic Officer Yousaf Ali Shahid said that traffic wardens would perform extra duties on the eve of Eid to maintain a smooth flow of traffic on major roads of the city.
