LAHORE:
The Punjab University spokesman blamed negative politics for the recent controversy of selection board. He said that the court had allowed the university administration to proceed in accordance with its rules and regulations.

The spokesman said that the consent of selection board members had been sought as per university calendar and the registrar had written a letter in this regard on June 15, 2017. He said that the agenda of the Selection Board had been circulated ‘well in time’.

He said that as per sub section 11 of rules for the meeting of Selection Board, the registrar, might, if the occasion so demanded, convene an emergency meeting of board with the approval of Vice-Chancellor, irrespective of the time limit prescribed in rules 2, 3 and 4.

He said that ordinarily a week’s notice shall be given for a meeting according to sub clause 2, which it shall be circulated among the members either through special messenger or by post.

He added that according to sub-clause 3, the registrar shall prepare an agenda for the meeting with the approval of the VC and shall circulate it among the members four days before the meeting. He added that as per sub-clause 4, supplementary agenda may be issued by the registrar; if the occasion so demanded, 24 hours before the meeting.

He denied the allegation of favoring candidates in the selection board and said that the VC followed the policy of merit and transparency of meetings. He said that university teachers and employees were awaiting their promotions for many years as the administration only promoted candidates on merit. He said that those who were involved in negative politics on campus were fanning baseless propagandas against the administration.

He said that the PU administration had earlier postponed the meeting after protest by teachers over illegal approval of panel experts list.

The university re-convened the meeting of the Selection Board on Thursday in alleged violation of the university calendar and controversial approval of panel experts list for appointment on teaching posts.
