NHMP launches drive to control overcharging on Eid
DIG says central zone will return overcharged amount to passengers
LAHORE:
The National Highways and Motorway Police Central Zone launched a campaign to control public transport operators from overcharging and overloading vehicles on the eve of Eidul Fitr.
DIG Mirza Faran Baig announced the launch of the drive on Monday during a surprise visit to National Highways near Thoker Niaz Baig. The central zone would return overcharged amounts to passengers and impose a fine over any violations, he said. He directed patrolling officers to strictly follow instructions.
“The passengers would be asked about the fare charged by vehicles and the amount must be returned to them in case of overcharging,” he said.
Punjab govt to introduce cable car
A zero tolerance policy must be ensured and no public transport would be allowed to enter highways with extra passengers, he added.
The DIG directed sector and beat commanders to personally supervise patrolling officers and hold meetings with transporter associations on overcharging and overloading.
He asked passengers to cooperate with motorway police and inform Helpline 130 if any transporter charges extra fare or misbehaves with them. The senior police official ordered officials to ensure the free flow of traffic to enable commuters to reach their native homes safely for Eid.
