KARACHI:

The Sindh Police Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) has claimed to have apprehended 19 men allegedly involved in snatching and stealing vehicles across the city.

The police have also recovered stolen vehicles from their possession, said ACLC chief SSP Javed Akbar Riaz, during a press conference at his office on Tuesday. The cell formed separate teams to find the vehicles and make arrests, given the increasing number of car thefts, he said.

The teams raided different parts of the city and arrested 19 men allegedly involved in the theft of four-wheelers and two-wheelers. On the basis of information given by these suspects, the police managed to find around 20 four-wheelers and 16 two-wheelers.

SSP Riaz said that they also found weapons, blank registration books, various stamps of government departments and fake licence plates during the raids. A number of notorious car thieves from rural Sindh were among those arrested, he said.

The culprits used to sell the vehicles in the city after forging documents and their department received several such complaints, he said. The police have registered cases against the suspects.
