LAHORE:
Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has been in the process to adopting a paper-free culture on campus and will issue smartcards, along with computerised roll number slips, for examinations.

LCWU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Uzma Qureshi, while chairing a meeting, said the institute would be turned into a ‘smart university’ after the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) provides a WiFi blanket across the campus.

“This project will extend the existing wireless facilities,” she added.

The VC said the university had a total of 14,094 students enrolled and smartcards would help them to obtain vouchers or pay their dues online. “Parents will also get SMS alerts on the university attendance of their children.”

During the meeting, Dr Uzma Qureshi was briefed by the controller of examinations about the new system.

She was told that computerised roll number slips would save 60% of the energy and time of clerical staff to prepare examination data.

The VC said universities must serve as role models for adopting technology and innovations. “Paper free culture can save resources at institutions.”
