KARACHI:
Sindh Information Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has said it is appreciable that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is appearing before the joint investigation team (JIT) probing his family’s offshore assets.

“This appearance will strengthen national institutions and discourage people from concealing their assets or commit any such wrongdoing,” Shah said on Wednesday while talking to this correspondent at an iftar-dinner hosted by the Express Media Group at a local hotel.

The minister said that accountability should be across the board and indiscriminate. He said that PPP prime ministers had been held accountable in the past, and a PPP premier, Yousaf Raza Gillani, had to step down as a result of a decision by the apex court.

“Now PM Nawaz is appearing before the JIT… and this is a good decision. However, all eyes are on the JIT’s investigations and the forthcoming decision by the Supreme Court,” Shah said, adding that the PM should resign voluntarily.

He said the Express Media Group had played an important role for the cause of freedom of the press. “Express has always published unbiased news stories based on truth,” he added.
