LAHORE: Supply to various neighbourhoods in the north of the city remained suspended for over 12 hours on Wednesday as SNGPL was shifting a main line which was creating hurdles for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project.

According to a spokesman of the gas utility, SNGPL had been asked to shift its 12-inch pipeline as it was coming in the way of the metro train.

He said the company had scheduled the downtime and informed its customers about the 12-hour suspension.

The schedule showed that sui gas supply would remain suspended from between 5am and 5pm to Baghbanpura, Haq Nawaz Road, Mujahid Abad, Mughalpura, Railway Colony, Weight Man Road, Dars Baray Mian, Sawami Nagar, Tezab Ahata, Shalimar Link Road, Canal Park, Singh Pura, Tauheed Park, Darbar Kali Burj, Angoori Park, Ghoray Shah, Begum Pura, Surria Jabeen Park, Sultan Pura, Dhobi Ghat, Larex Colony, Shalimar Park, Fazal Elahi Park, Chaman Park and other adjacent neighbourhoods.

The suspension to thickly-populated areas caused great inconvenience to citizens. Various locals, including Shan Raza, Sultan and Kaleem, said ongoing construction activities on the metro train had ruined routine life in the whole area.

Frequent power outages and gas breakdowns, on the pretext of OLMT construction, had become routine in these neighbourhoods.
