A 25-year-old mathematics teacher accused of having sexual relations with three of her male high school pupils hid her face with a notebook as she appeared in court for the first time, according to Mail Online.

Erin McAuliffe faced Nash County Court in North Carolina on Tuesday for three counts of sexual activity with a student as well as one count of indecent liberties with a minor.

McAuliffe, wore a knee-length black skirt and white blouse, and shielded her face while she walked down the courtroom hallway, WTVD reports.

McAuliffe, whose appearance was in stark contrast to her social media photos, refused to comment and ignored questions as she made her way into the court.

She taught at a public charter school, Rocky Mount Preparatory, and was arrested on Thursday.

Authorities say two of the victims were 17 and one was 16 years old.

Police have launched an investigation into the alleged charges in May after school officials called them to report allegations of misconduct against the teacher.

Detectives at the Rocky Mount Police Department conducted interviews with students and staff at the school, which has 1,300 students from kindergarten to 12th grade, before obtaining a warrant for McAuliffe's arrest last week.

According to police, the math teacher's alleged sexual encounters with the three students all took place off campus.

McAuliffe was ordered to be held in the Carteret County Jail on $20,000 bond pending her first court appearance.

She was hired at Rocky Mount Prep in August 2016 after a brief stint as a data analyst at a San Diego-based law firm.
