English professor arrested for peddling drugs in Peshawar
Islamia College says they will conduct their own investigation
PESHAWAR:
Police have caught an English language teacher for allegedly peddling drugs.
Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Tordher District in Mardan and an assistant professor at the English language department of the Islamia College in Peshawar, had been stopped for routine checking at the Regi Model Town police checkpoint late on Monday evening.
As officials searched his vehicle, they recovered a cache of drugs and weapons.
According to Capital City Police Officer Tahir Khan, as Ahmad was entering Peshawar, officials signalled his car to stop for snap checking. During the search, they found two pistols, 30 cartridges, 20 grammes of ice (crystal methamphetamines) and 150 grammes of hashish.
Khan said that while Ahmad tried to resist, officials managed to detain him and later an FIR against the suspect was registered.
Khan said that officials were investigating the matter regarding where the drugs came from, who was Ahmad carrying it for.
Meanwhile, Irfan Marwat, an administration officer at the Islamia College, disowned the professor and said that the college’s administration would investigate the incident.
Once the investigation is complete, the college would take the appropriate step against the man, Marwat said, adding that he could not additional details at this stage.
