British national arrested at Karachi aiport for carrying heroin

KARACHI:
The Pakistan Customs claimed on Friday to have foiled a narcotics smuggling bid from Karachi to a foreign country. A British national who was trying to smuggle the drugs was arrested by the Customs officials from Karachi airport.

The preventive staff posted at Jinnah International Airport intercepted a passenger, said Customs Chief Media Liaison Officer Qamar Thalho, adding that upon examination of his baggage, it was found that light brown heroin powder had been concealed in the top lid and bottom of one of his suitcases. On measurement, the recovered heroin powder was found to weigh 7.75 kilogrammes and was worth Rs77.7 million.

The arrested passenger, identified as Jawed Ali, son of Qurban Ali, is a British national. He was travelling to London via Muscat on Oman Airlines flight No WY-326, said the Customs official.

A case has been registered against the accused while further investigations are under way.
