12 British-Pakistanis win seats in UK general elections
As many as 30 candidates of Pakistani origin contested the polls

As many as 30 candidates of Pakistani origin contested in the June 8 elections in the United Kingdom, of which 12 have been successful in reaching the House of Commons.
Of the 12 successful British-Pakistanis, which include five women candidates, nine belong to the Labour while three represent the Conservative party.
Although most candidates succeeded in the previous elections but Afzal Khan from Gorton area of Manchester and Muhammad Yaseen from Bendford have been elected on Labour party’s tickets for the first time.

Pakistan-based British candidate of the Labour party Yasmin Qureshi was re-elected as MP from Bolton South East.
Similarly, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan from Labour won from Tooting, London with a 15,000 majority. Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, sent his congratulations to the emergency room doctor for her "incredible result".
Shabana Mahmood contesting from Birmingham, Ladywood was re-elected as the Labour MP from her constituency. She won with an overwhelming margin of over 28,000 votes.

Meanwhile, 12 Indian candidates also managed to make their way to the British parliament.
Of those successful British-Indians, seven represent the Labour while five were elected on tickets from the Conservatives.
