Industrial estates need basic facilities
In spite of assurances from the chief minister, persistent problems reduce Karachi’s output potential

Korangi Association of Trade and Industry President Masood Naqi has urged the Sindh government to include industrial infrastructure projects in development plans. A lack of basic facilities and severe infrastructural problems in industrial areas of Karachi were cited as major roadblocks in industrial development. In spite of assurances from the chief minister, persistent problems reduce Karachi’s output potential. Naqi advised the government to devote sufficient funds from the annual development plan of the recently announced provincial budget towards upgrading of industrial areas. “Many basic infrastructural issues stand unresolved for decades,” Naqi stated, adding that Karachi’s industry contributed most to the national exchequer apart from being the largest employer and hence required utmost attention.
