Power outages hampering exports
Due to unannounced power outages complete shift of industrial production has suffered taking production losses to 40%
KARACHI:
Pakistan Apparel Forum Chairman and Chief Coordinator of Karachi Industrial Forum Muhammad Jawed Bilwani has strongly condemned unannounced industrial load-shedding by K-Electric (KE) for 7 to 8 hours daily and demanded the government to intervene and ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industries in Karachi. Expressing reservation, Bilwani stated that due to unannounced power outages a complete shift of industrial production has suffered taking production losses to 40%. This will hamper export efficiency and will also widen the trade deficit, he added. Bilwani said that the management of KE is deliberately not operating thermal units operated on furnace oil. “If KE operates all its power generation units, load-shedding in Karachi will come to an end,” said the forum chairman.
