KKH Realignment: NHA weighs options
Various options for the realignment of Karakoram Highway (KKH) at Attabad Lake reviewed.
ISLAMABAD:
The Executive Board of the National Highway Authority (NHA) reviewed various options for the realignment of Karakoram Highway (KKH) at Attabad Lake in Gilgit-Baltistan.
In a meeting chaired by NHA Chairman Muhammad Junaid discussed matters relating to various schemes, on Monday. Two options to resolve KKH issue were presented. The first option was to build a new road, 10 metres above water level, while the second was to reduce the water level to an extent that the old road is made usable again.The second option was more feasible in terms of cost and time requirements. It includes construction of 1.36 Km long bridges and tunnels costing Rs24 billion. The design of the project is flexible if requirements change.
