The Punjab government has allocated Rs300 million for installation of hand-pumps in various cities of the province during the next fiscal year.
The step has been taken to provide drinking water to the people living in far-flung areas, said Punjab Minister for Local Government Muhammad Mansha-Ullah Butt on Sunday.

He said that provision of clean drinking water, sanitation and other civic amenities to people is top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League-N government.
The social sector had 32% share of the annual development programme in 2017-18 budget, he said, adding that Rs5 billion had been allocated for regional development programme for less-developed districts. These initiatives show commitment of the government towards the poor and ignored segments of society. The minister said that due to sagacious economic policies of the government, Pakistan was progressing successfully.
