Kirsten Dunst isn't happy with the latest 'Spider-Man' films. Can you guess why?
Actor believes the original films that she starred in were the “best”
It looks like Kirsten Dunst isn’t too happy with Marvel and Sony’s latest Spider Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Arguably the most famous hero in Marvel’s star-studded roster of classic characters, Spider-Man has had a very active life in films and TV adaptations. The first big theatrical adaptation was of course Sam Raimi’s 2002 hit, which saw Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Dunst as his usual love interest Mary Jane Watson. The film was one of the early films that gave rise to the current comic book-dominated film industry. Raimi’s Spider-Man had even better sequel in 2004, before ending on a very divisive note with 2007’s Spider-Man 3.

Five years later, we got 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield. That reboot was did decently well and made enough money to earn a sequel of its own, 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Sadly, the latter proved just as divisive among fans as Raimi’s threequel and it became clear that Spider-Man needed a fresh start.
This came in the form of last year’s Captain America: Civil War, which introduced Tom Holland’s web-crawler to the Marvel Comics Universe (MCU), reported Screen Rant. That brings us to this summer’s hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, the MCU solo debut of the Holland incarnation of Peter Parker.
While the trailers for the film have so far been appreciated, it would appear that one person who is not too excited about Spidey’s latest theatrical adventure is Dunst. In a recent interview with Marie Claire, the Hollywood starlet was asked for her opinion on the latest reboot, and her response was surprisingly negative.
Spider venom may offer hope to stroke victims: scientists
“We made the best ones so who cares? I’m like, ‘You make it all you want.’ They’re just milking that cow for money. It’s so obvious. You know what I mean?”
While the opinion of one actor – even one so synonymous with Spider-Man’s history – is unlikely to sway anyone from their excitement over Spider-Man: Homecoming, it’s still a bit surprising to see her criticise the film so unabashedly.
One can also argue that Dunst’s issues have less to do with this particular movie itself and more with the very idea of rebooting Spider-Man yet again. In fact, that’s an opinion many Marvel fans expressed before they saw Holland in action last year.
Spiders could eat every human on Earth in one year
Interestingly enough, Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to be the third live-action Spidey film in a row to not feature the character of Mary Jane. For now at least, Dunst remains the sole actor to bring life to Peter’s significant other in a theatrical film.
