A sports writer called Rihanna fat but her fans were having none of it

Chris Spagnuolo has accused singer of “enjoying good room service for too long”

A sports reporter is being accused of chauvinism — and simply being plain old rude — after writing an long article worth 350 words in which he complained about Rihanna getting 'fat.'

Chris 'Spags' Spagnuolo, a writer at Barstool Sports, published the critical piece last week, and it quickly earned widespread attention across the internet, reported The Daily Mail. But nearly everyone who has reacted to the piece on Twitter is monumentally unimpressed, calling out the New York-based writer for fat-shaming and being everything bad under the sun, including a 'sad excuse for a man.'

The piece was based on pictures of Rihanna from a recent Saturday outing in New York City, in which the 29-year-old singer was seen wearing distressed jeans, an oversized blue button-down and white boots.

Due likely to the baggy fitting of her clothes and somewhat unflattering photo angles, one could argue that the superstar looked a bit heavier than usual. A few days later, she was spotted out in NYC again, looking slim and slender.

The Barstool Sports writer, however, appeared to take personal offense at her supposed weight gain. Spagnuolo wrote an entire piece both making fun of her for it and worrying that Rihanna getting 'fat' would influence her fans to follow suit. 'Is Rihanna going to make being fat the hot new trend?' the piece was titled.



Spagnuolo acknowledged that the bad camera angles may be to blame but also considered that RiRi has been “enjoying that good room service a bit too long.” He even wondered if she was “Going for Ashley Graham's spot on the plus-sized hierarchy” with a tone that implied he thinks that's a bad thing.
