PESHAWAR:

A three-day anti-polio drive in three tehsils of Khyber Agency will be launched on Monday, setting a target of 116,000 children below age five to be administered anti-polio drops.  Talking to APP, Health Communication Support Officer Dr Sher Amin and Agency Social Mobilizing Officer Aamir Khan Shinwari said that all arrangements have been made well in time to launch the three-day anti-polio drive in Landikotal, Jamrud and Bara areas.

He said that Pakistan is among the four countries where the polio virus has not been eradicated completely and it is the responsibility of people from every walk of life, including media, civil society, religious scholars and parents to play their vital role to create awareness regarding the disease.

Amin said that government is making its utmost efforts to provide better medical care to the people by equipping all government hospitals with modern technology.

He said a total of 356 medical teams, including eight transit and 22 fixed teams, will visit every house to immunise children. Besides this, these teams will also immunise children on bus stops, especially along the Torkham border and in passenger buses and other vehicles carrying kids below five years of age.

The teams will also visit Shalobar Qambar Khel, Qambar Khel, Kala Khel, Tira Tehsil, Medan Mulk Din Khel, Bazaar Zaka Khel in Bara Tehsil, as the insurgency last year led to the suspension of the programme in these areas.
