PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has directed the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) to ensure that power outages remain at a minimum during the month of Ramazan.

While chairing a high-level meeting with Pesco Chief, Shabbir Ahmed Gillani, and other senior executives on Tuesday, Jhagra said Pesco should make its administration more transparent and responsible in order to improve the utility’s performance.

He urged the company to root out corruption and take strict action against corrupt people and “black sheep” within the organisation.

Jhagra also directed Pesco to minimise load-shedding during Ramazan, saying power theft and line losses were major issues that should be fixed and people who pay their bills regularly should not be punished by prolonged outages.

“It is one of the incumbent government’s priorities to solve the problem of power outages as soon as possible. No stone should be left un-turned to resolve unscheduled load-shedding,” he added.

Over the weekend, PTI K-P MPA Fazal Elahi accompanied by his constituents held mass protests against Pesco's power outages in the city. They stormed a few grid stations and forced Pesco to resume power supply to their areas.
