A major breakdown hit Karachi on the eve of Ramazan on Saturday and plunged more than half of the metropolis into darkness on throughout the first sehri of the fasting month.

This creates unbearable load for the poorly maintained power infrastructure during these times and that causes lines to trip. The only solution in the short term is do away with special treatment for power consumers during Iftar, Sehri and taraveeh time.
