GILGIT:
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will inaugurate Diamer-Bhasha Dam at the end of this month, officials said on Saturday.

The prime minister will also address a public meeting in Chilas during his visit to the US$8.5 billion dam located on the Indus River. The 200-square kilometre reservoir will flood 100 kilometres of the Karakoram Highway, and the villages and farms of over 35,000 people will be permanently submerged.

“Prime Minister Gilani will be accompanied by world bank officials, Wapda’s chairperson, and other party leaders,” said the official, adding that the Gilgit-Baltistan government has begun preparations for the ceremony.
