ISLAMABAD: The city police’s operations chief extended the newly launched beat system to all police stations with special induction of police officials on the rank of inspector or sub-inspector as in-charges of certain areas.

A spokesperson for the police said that the step was taken to effectively check crime in the city.

In a meeting with Station House Officers (SHO), Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam said that each police station will be divided into two beats and police officers will be deployed on their respective beats, adding that beat officers will be given further resources.

A summary will be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police office for approval after which the beat-system will formally start working. Beat in-charges will report to the SHO and will be provided with the necessary logistical support in case of any untoward incident.

Earlier on Thursday, the IGP Islamabad had launched a similar project at Shalimar Police Station with the intention of gradually spreading it to all other police stations.
