Canal Motors Inquiry: LHC asked to suspend NAB’s Punjab head

Application filed asking LHC to stop Rana Zahid Mehmood from acting as NAB Punjab director general.

LAHORE:

An application has been filed asking the Lahore High Court to stop Rana Zahid Mehmood from acting as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab director general while a case against his appointment is pending.

Shah Faisal Qureshi, who is accused in a case pending inquiry with NAB, filed the application on Saturday. He had also moved the petition against Mehmood’s appointment as director general.

Qureshi submitted that he had already been affected by the “wrongdoings of the DG” and after challenging his appointment he feared that the DG would act with bias in the NAB inquiry in his case.

In his earlier petition, Qureshi submitted that Mehmood’s appointment on contract was in violation of a Supreme Court judgment and the Constitution of Pakistan.

He claimed that Mehmood was a close relative of Rana Qaiser Nazir, the main accused in the Canal Motors scam case being investigated by NAB. He accused the director general of trying to influence the inquiry by removing the investigating officer, Rana Waqas.
