Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali while addressing the participants said this step would  benefit the common citizens of the province in terms of provision of justice. The chief justice also distributed certificates among the arbitrators.

He added there are 1700 judges in the subordinate judiciary of the province and more than 1.3 million cases are pending before them. “Pendency of the cases is a bitter reality and they could not be resolved through adjudication instead there should be arbitration to resolve them,” he added.

He said the economy would suffer if businessmen visit courts again and again for solution of their cases. Lawyers and people had been complaining about the delay in their cases before the courts for the last several years, he said, adding that all these cases should be resolved through arbitration. “A case that can be solved within a few hours takes years to be solved,” he said.

Lahore District and Sessions Judge Abid Hussain Qureshis said around 178 cases were decided by arbitration centre Lahore during last two months.
