At least two drug dealers, who were ordered to sweep streets and clean gutters for a year as punishment by a session court in Alipur tehsil, Muzafargarh, fled away from the clutches of police on Friday.
A police official in Alipur told The Express Tribune that Alipur Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Fawad Arif sentenced Qaisar Abbas, Fayaz Hussain and Muhammad Yousaf to sweep and mop streets and roads and clean gutters in Alipur tehsil for a year. The drug dealers have also been fined Rs500. He added the court also ordered the tehsil municipal officer (TMO) to submit a report every 15 days on the implementation of the sentence.

“However, on Friday when the police took the accused out for mopping the streets, two of them Qaisar Abbas and Muhammad Yousaf, escaped from the scene,” the official maintained. He said Fayaz Hussain was still in police custody while raids were being conducted to nab the other two. He told The Express Tribune the accused had also filed a mercy petition in the court.
In February, two drug pushers were convicted by sessions courts in Faisalabad. In the first case, Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhary Ghulam Rasool awarded life imprisonment with a fine of Rs100,000 to accused Saifullah Khan.
