LAHORE:

“I am very happy to see that 26 teams from girls’ colleges are participating in the championship. It’s refreshing that our society has finally started accepting women in sports,” Dr Mujahid Kamran, the Punjab University vice chancellor (VC), said on Friday.

The VC was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 64th Punjab University Inter-Collegiate Girls’ Athletics Championship at the Punjab Stadium. Dr Kamran said that sports created team spirit among students and trained them to accept success and failure optimistically and humbly. Sports such as 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,500 metre races, relay races, 100 and 400 hurdle races, long jump, high jump, triple jump and others were a part of the championship. The closing ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 2.
