LAHORE: A security guard was shot and injured in the line of duty on Ravi Road.

The victim, Muhammad Boota, 50, worked as a security guard at a telecom company. On Wednesday, he was at work when two unidentified suspects entered the building, locked the room of the cashier and took about Rs12,000. When they tried to leave, Boota tried to stop them and even attempted to capture one of the robbers. That is when the armed men opened fire at the guard and left him injured on the spot.

Eyewitnesses questioned the deterring power of the police, saying the suspects carried out the robbery with such ease that it seemed they were out for a Sunday stroll. A police team reached the spot after a while and collected forensic evidence. They also recorded statements from those present.

An FIR, 482/17, was registered against unidentified suspects. Investigation Officer Iqbal said they collected CCTV footage from nearby buildings and were searching for the suspects.
