ISLAMABAD: A security guard was killed and two others were injured when a business dispute between partners of a private medical college turned ugly on Sunday.

The incident took place at the Yusra Medical and Dental College near Rawat early on Sunday.

Sihala police said one group broke into the college on Saturday night by breaking the locks. Noticing the forced entry, the other group of around a dozen people, allegedly led by the college’s chief security officer Colonel (retd) Aurangzeb, opened fire on the ‘intruders’.

Housing society guard killed, another injured

As a result, security guard Habibullah – who was accompanying the group which had broken into the college, was killed.

A police officer told The Express Tribune that the break-in and subsequent ‘clash’ was the result of a property dispute involving senior college officials. The security guard who was killed had been deputed with Dr Haider Abbas Malik, another former army officer.

Police subsequently booked 14 people for murder and rioting including the security officer Col (retired) Aurangzeb. The college’s principal Brigadier (retired) M Sultan Muzaffar, was also included in the complaint even though police said he was not present at the scene.

Dr Malik and six other men who had accompanied him, were booked for trespassing.

Police said that the security guard had been shot twice in the face and chest by a rifle.

The complaint lodged by Habibullah’s brother said that the security guard had been killed by shots fired by Naveed Wilayat and Ishfaq Hussain.

Ahmadiyya community leader killed in gun attack

The complainant further alleged that Habibullah was killed because the college’s principal wanted to remove Dr Malik to allegedly usurp the latter’s share in the college.

Dr Malik had inherited a share in the college from his father Brigadier Sikandar Ali Malik, who was a director of the college. Brig Malik had been gunned down in his home along with his wife and two daughters on October 2, 2013.

Meanwhile, police have arrested nine suspects in the case and obtained their three-day physical remand from the court. However the chief security officer of the college Col (retd) Aurangzeb, is still at large.
