LAHORE: Thousands of university graduates flocked to the one-day fair held at Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by the university, the event received an overwhelming response from students who wanted to explore employment and internship opportunities with reputed international and national organisations.

Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, a reputed businessman, inaugurated the GCU Job Fair 2017 which was organised by the university’s Career Guidance and Placement Centre under the umbrella of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC).

As many as 32 noted organisations including, IT firms, NGOs, private hospitals, manufactures, textile industry, shoe industry and ecommerce websites set up their stalls at the job fair and offered more than 500 internship and permanent placement opportunities to the university’s students and graduates.

The stalls of ecommerce websites and clothing brands remained the centre of attraction at the fair. The companies conducted on-campus interviews and short-listed candidates for different positions, and also offered them internship opportunities.

Symbolic session: Government fails to woo opposition

Speaking on the occasion, GCU Quality Enhancement Cell Director Iram Sohail said students were reflections of the institutions they attended, so they invited all these companies to witness the academic environment at GCU and assess the potential. She said such job fairs fast track the placement of their students in reputed organisations.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said such job fairs played a crucial role in bridging the gap between universities and the industry, while helping both understand modern market demands.

He said the academic environment and ethos of GCU concentrated on overall grooming, confidence-building and personality development of students. The VC boasted this was
the reason reputed companies preferred their students.

Talking to the media, GCU Placement Officer Mubasher Hassan hoped that more than 100 students in their last semester would secure permanent placements from this year’s job fair.

GCU Registrar Saboor Khan also visited stalls of all companies and discussed recruitment polices and criteria with the executives. Later, the vice chancellor gave away certificates to the representatives of the companies which participated in the job fair.
