Heinous act: Woman set ablaze by ‘in-laws’ for not bearing child
Police have arrested accused Mir Islam, Fazil and Bagh Ali for murder attempt.
MULTAN:
A woman suffered burn injuries when her in-laws set her ablaze for not bearing a child in Okara on Monday. The victim was shifted to District Headquarter Hospital for treatment, police said.
A police official told The Express Tribune that Asia Bibi tied-the-knot with Afzal three years ago in Village 36/4L. “However, the woman was unable to bear a child which led to routine arguments and fights between Asia and her in-laws,” he added.
The official maintained, “On the day of the incident, Asia had an argument with her in-laws over the issue. As the arguments escalated, accused Mir Islam, Fazil and Bagh Ali, relatives of Afzal, threw petrol on her and set her ablaze.” He said after hearing hue and cry the woman’s neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted her to the hospital.
Unfortunate incident: Woman killed during failed kidnapping bid
The doctors at the hospital said Asia Bibi’s condition was critical but she survived the attack. Meanwhile, District Police Officer Hasan Asad Alvi told The Express Tribune a case had been registered at Saddar police station and all the three suspects involved in the incident were nabbed by the police. He added the culprits will be awarded exemplary punishment as per the law.
He maintained, “The victim’s husband was not present at home when the incident occurred. However, he will also be interrogated.”The DPO also visited the hospital and inquired the health of Asia Bibi.
